Pretty much part number one when going to a standalone ECU like the Motorsports-electronics ME221 or ME442. The Intake temperature sensor does just that and allows the ECU to read the air temps going into the engine (usually after the intercooler).

Most MK1 MX5's (NA) were fitted with a MAF or AFM (Air Flow Meter), by installing a GFBDevelopments IAT kit you'll be able to delete the factor AFM/MAF altogether giving your ECU better control and freeing up space in the engine bay.
